LEDUC, ALBERTA – After a mix-up on the printed schedule, the Mohawks have a date with the Brooklin Merchants in today’s semifinals at the 2016 Presidents’ Cup. With a 2-1 record in the roundrobin portion of the Canadian Senior B National Championships the Mohawks finished on top of their pool on Wednesday and advanced to today’s semifinal.

Due to an error on the printed schedule the Mohawks thought that they would be playing the winner of Thursday night’s Native Sons vs Calgary Mountaineers crossover game and that the host St. Albert Miners would be playing the winner of the Tyendinaga Thunderbirds vs Brooklin Merchants game. However, the mistake was found by the Host Committee and a meeting was held following Native Sons’ 15-8 win over the Mounties and the schedule was straitened out with the proper opponents determined.

The Mohawks host the Merchants at 4:30 p.m., while the Miners play Native Sons at 7:30 p.m., with the winners advancing to the championship game and the losers playing for bronze.

The Mohawks road to the semis includes a 10-9 overtime loss on Monday to the Langley Warriors, a 10-9 win over the Tyendinaga Thunderbirds and a 12-10 win over the Native Sons. The Merchants tournament included a 11-5 win over Calgary, a 18-5 win over the Saskatoon Brewers followed by a 5-3 loss to the Miners. The Merchants then downed Tyendinaga 13-5 to punch their ticket to the semifinals against the Mohawks.

The host St. Albert Miners went 3-0 in the roundrobin to finish first in their pool. They defeated league rival Calgary 11-8 in the opening game of the tournament, followed by a 24-2 win over Saskatoon and a 5-3 win over Brooklin on Wednesday night.
